Public Works Committee Report.
— «- The following report was read and adopted at the Borough Council meeting last Monday night :— " The Works Committee have the honor to report that the work of making the track on No. 2 Line is in hand, and the sandhill adjoining section 417 has been excovated and re-graded, and the side slopes covered with manuka scrub securely pinned down. Another sandhill adjoining section No. 416 is now evcavated, and the slopes it is intended also to protect with scrub. In order to make a permanent job it is recommended that about six inches of turf and soil from [the sides of the track be spread on those cuttings, and also 50 cubic yards of shingle, and \ that the shingle be blinded with clay. That the footpath on the north side of Whyte-street leading to the Public Hall be repaired. That the footpath on the east side of Main-street, from Cook-street to Unionstreet be repaired, and the docks and other weeds be cut out of side-chan-nel ; also that the kerbing taken up alongside the sand-hill on the west side of the same length of this street be replaced, and that the owner of the sandhill be requested to scrub or otherwise bind the sand to prevent it blowing upon and blocking the footpath. That protection posts and rails be fixed over drains at junction of John-ston-street and Patrick-street and No. 2 Line, and that they be whitewashed or painted white. That the cuttings through sand-hill in Johnston-street be fenced.
