Foxton Borough Council.
The usual monthly meeting of the above was held at the Library Buildings last night at 7.30. Present— The Mayor (Cr J. R. Stacsell), and Crs P. Hennessy, T. Westwood, A. Fraser, W. B. Rhodes and W. Purcell. Before proceeding with the business of the Council the Mayor, in a few words said he had much pleasure in introducing Mr Robert Chapman as the new town clerk, and Mr Chapman suitably replied. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. A large amount of inward and outward correspondence was read. RESOLUTIONS PASSED* Proposed by Cr Fraser, seconded by Cr Rhodes, That the request of
Messrs P. Hennessy and Co. for permission to erect a grain shed and coal bin on Harbour-street be granted, subject to same conditions as the flax mills. Carried.
Proposed by Cr Purcell, seconded by Cr Westwood, That the Public Works Committee be instructed to have the outlet drain running through Mr C. Symons* property seen to, 9» the road leading to his property. Carried.
Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Fraser, That the Valuer-Gene-ral be informed that the Council does not object to the clerk supplying his department with the information he desires provided that the clerk is suitably remunerated for his trouble. Carried.
Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Purcell, That the Town Ckfc, be authorised to issue a summon* against the Mayor, Councillors and Burgesses of the Borough of Marton for £z 8s Bd, being the balance of its pro rata share of the licensing expenses for the past year, viz., 22nd October, 1898. Carried.
Proposed by Cr Rhodes, seconded by Cr Parcel!, That Councillor Fraser be nominated by this Council for election to the Palmerston N. Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. Carried^
Proposed by Cr Westwood, seconded by Cr Rhodes, That Mr C. H. Collins by request be released from his contract as Borough carter and his. deposit refunded, and that fresh applications be called for this position ; to be in by next general meeting. Carried.
