War Threatened.

FRANCE ARMING.

A demand has been made in the Chamber of Deputies for the presentation of a bill claiming an indemnity in connection with the Fashoda incident.

The Minister of War has decided to mobilise the fleet on the xst of January. It will be provided with stores and munitions of war for a long campaign. Though the city is hopeful that peace will be maintained, the Bourse is depressed, while the war risks to the end of the year are quoted at 15 guineas per cent. The Paris Municipality urges the avoidance of conflict with England.

The Paris press is defiant in its comments on the speech of Sir Michael Hicks-Beach, in which he declared that Britain's foot was down and it was prepared to do its duty, and, backed by the united nation, would shrink at nothing.

Barratier, Major Marchand's messenger, proceeds to Paris after cabling the text of the latter's report.
