Mrs Gray's Concert.

Last night Mrs Richard Gray gave a concert with her pupils at the Methodist schoolroom. Though the night was anything but pleasant the building was filled by invited guests. Mr Fraser was invited to announce the performers in the unavoidable absence of Mr Thynne. On taking the chair Mr Fraser made a few appropriate remarks. He said it was at first, Mrs Gray's intention to have held the social in her house but finding that her pupils were so numerous and had so many relations and as Mrs Gray especially desired to have their relatives present, she found it necessary to engage some public hall. The programme was gone though in a very creditable manner the pupils evincing a good knowledge of vocal and instrumental music, and their performances appeared to please their relations and friends as every item was heartily applauded. Every pupil, from the youngest to the eldest, contributed an item. The items contributed by the juveniles were particularly good and received the strongest recognition. The songs were action songs, viz., "The Cat" and "Lullaby." Mrs Gray is to be congratulated on the success, both of her pupils and of the evening's entertainment. Before the last item was rendered Mr T. Westwood rose and moved a vote of thanks and expressed the appreciation of the audience assembled at the very admirable entertainment Mrs Gray had provided for her friends. He said he did not know whether

Mrs Gray had got a name for her ™ .institution but if she had not, he would suggest the name of the Foxton Academy, as it was an institution the town could be proud of.

Mr C. V. Furrie seconded the resolution which was put by the chairman and carried by acclamation. The pupils then sang " Old Lang Syne," in which also many of the audience joined. During the evening refreshments were handed round by all the pupils. The Hall was kindly lent by the Methodists and the piano was Mrs Gray's. This is to be an annual gathering)and will be looked forward to with pleasure.
