American Apple Crop.
As our exports of fresh fruits to Europe are restricted largely to apples local growers will be interested in learning (says a Melbourne paper) that all the advices to hand up to the aist of July indicate that the American crop will be a very short one this year. According to Government reports, the outlook is discouraging. Of the 18 principal apple producing States, 14 report a lower average condition than last year. Although of late years production has sensibly increased, the demand for apples for canning and evaporation has expanded enormously, and our advices state that both these industries are likely to be considerably inconvenienced by the shortage in the present crop.
