The " Ladies Evening " which had r een. Rooked forwar^o with considerable interest pn account of the rivalry existing between, the two sexes, took place on Tuesday eyehing, when there was a large attendance of the public. It was evident that nt> pains had been spared by the ladies to ensure success, the decorations in the form of an arch making a pretty sight. In the absence of Mrs Woollass, who was unable to be present owing to the Rev. W. Woollass being indisposed, Mrs Mitchill carried out the duties of the chair efficiently. The programme for the evening was well earned out, and was s3S follows: — Pianoforto duet, Misses L. and C* Austin* pianoforte solo, Miss Hamer ; sonjia^^fisses McQueen, E. Newth, Hamer,' itnd E. Spring; duets, Misses E. NeWth and L. Austin, and Misses Simpson, and E. Spring; reading, Miss N. ;Newth; recitation, Miss E. Spring; also a quartette, and a chorus by eight ladies. The supper provided, during the^evening was of a first-class quality, tt was announced thajt owing to the visit of the Rev. F. Isitt oieMbfc: j^oth, the .debate "Single Tax," would be postponed till the 27th Sept. V
