NARROW ESCAPE OF GENERAL KITCHENER.
While attacking the Khalifa's palace, General Kitchener and staff were nearly killed with one of their own shells. It was a chance shot; which killed tbe Hon. Hubert Howard. After Omdurman had been entered. Yakoub, tbe Khalifa's brother, made ?in heroic defence round the black standard, and compelled the admiration of the British. Heap 3of men fell around him, fighting to the last. Five gunboats have proceeded up the White Nile to meet Major Maodonald of Uganda.
