p ■ The Queen, Lord Wolseley (Com-unander-in-Chief of the British Army) Marquis of Lansdown (Secretary of State of the War Department) and the Emperor of Germany have cabled their congratulations to General Kitchen pr. The Derviehes made repeated and desperate attempt to outflank the British mid Egyptian?, but failed, being uoubid to close their ranks. Failing in •h'jae efforts they fiercely »t a:kd the centre of the Anglo Egyptian position, where the first biitttlion of Warwickshire Regiment, th- first battalion of the Cameron Highlander?, the first bi't'ili.u) Seufoi-th Highlanders and thp S iiirlriuese troops were stationed. A great force of horsemen charged heroically, their flagmen and emirs penetrating within a few hundred yards of General Kitchener's troops, who were partly sheltered by zirebas in mi entrenched position. 1 1 was impossible for the Dervishes to f ico the continuous hail of bullets and fchoy were almost annihilated. Their horsemen broke the lines and fief*, leaving the field cohered with corpus. The emir 3 raillied round h- 1 Khalifa's black standard, which b nv-ver, was. subsequently captured. Wben General Kitchener's foroe advanced, a division of the Egyptian troops on the right wing beoame detached from the main body. Th* Khalifa immediately hurled 12,000 troop -i upon them; and made a supreme effort to cut them off. The division was in a perilous position for some time, and lost a «un, which, however, was brilliantly recaptured. The Egyptians fought steadily and with conspicuous gallantry. Th? fiirb and stench at Omdurman are unbearable. The plaoe is full of women. The Khalifa, with 150 fighting men, is apparently making for the province of Kordofan, to the sooth" west of Omdurman
