Foxton Lawn Tennis Club.

I ANNUAL MEETING. ' The annual meeting of the above Club was held at the Masonic Hall on Saturday last at 8 p.m., being postponed to that date owing to a number of members not being able to at» tend on the date originally fixed. There was only a moderate attendance, and Mr W. Hamer was voted to the chair. The minutes of the last annual meeting being read and confirmed, the hon. sec. (Mr W. Cook), then read the report and balance sheet for the past season. The report showed that 4 matches had been played against outside clubs, of which the local Club had won two. This being the most matches played in one season since the Club's existence. No tournaments were played principally to there not being sufficient gentlemen players. Fourteen new members joined during the past year, and the report mentioned that some are likely to become good players. The balance sheet shows an expen- j diture of £13 14s Bd, and the receipts to have been £16 14s 3d, leaving a | credit balance of £% igs7d. There

was also subscriptions outstanding (£3 us 6d), making a total of £6 us Proposed by Mr G. Lamb, seconded by Miss Collins, That the report and balance sheet as read be adopted. Carried. * The election of officers f ->r the year resulted as follows : — President, Wai-, ter Robinson, Esq. ; vice-presidents, E. S. Thynne and W. S. Stewart, Esq.'r9. For the position of a secretary Mr W. Cook was again proposed for the position, but declined, and Miss Whyte proposed that Mr W. Purcell be elected. Seconded by Mr G. Lamb and carried. The following were proposed as the committee: — Mrs Stewart, Miss Purcell, Miss Young, Messrs Gower, C. Austin and L. Furrie. Proposed by Miss Symons, seconded by Mr Gower, That Miss Edith Collins be elected a member of the Club. Carried.
