Infant Mortality.
A singular epidemic is reported at Jerusalem, a settlement on tho Wanganui River, Mother Mary Joseph Aubert, who is in charge of the Jerusalem Foundling Home, reports to Mr Kettle, S.M., that three of the infants in the Home had died within nine days, two others are in a very low state, and several aro beginning to ail. The children appeared to suffer from dysentry and purpura. Strange to say, all the cats in the settlement have died during the la3fc fortnigh. Dr. Wait, of Oamaru, who has visited the Home, reports that its sanitary con dition is good. He attributes the sickness in some measure to the milk being affected by tbe herbage on which the cattle feed at this time of the year, and the wintry weather, both of which have an effect on tbe cows, and make tbe milk less wholesome for infants. The doctor has Ordered an alteration of diet for the children. He cannot account for tbe death of the cats. An inquest is to be held to-morrow as to the death of the children. -Post. *
