+„,,- „ Tho ordinary monthly meeting of tbe Council was held yesterday. There were present Ors. W. Taylor (eh-ibm-in), A. Strang, J. G. Wilson H. Hammond, T. Masters, T. Clark and J. R. McLennan. The inward correspondence was daalr. with as follows : — From Joseph Beale, Oroua Dowm complaining tbat the men who had raided the bridge opposite Saxford's b-id filled in the approach with mud and stopped traffic— -The overseer said the work had not been 'finished wb;-n Mr Beale passed and saw it. He had arranged to have the surface sanded. From the Assets Realisation Board, drawing attention to the inconvenience of crossing stock at the Shannon Ferry. — As soon aa material can be pnt on the ground the necessary improvements will be made From tbe Land and Inoome Department, with vouoher for £125 subsidy on rates. From the Wairarapa N. County Council, with reference to the distribution of charitable aid.— No action taken. From Walter J. Simpson, Oroua Bridge, applying for a slaughtering license. - Granted. From J. W. Marshall, chairman of Oounty Council, stating that he had ascertained that there was a reserve betweeen the new and old bridge sites of 16$ acres and one iust below the bridge site. He understood from the Commissioner of Crown Lands tbat he would be favourable for the reserves to be vested in the Council. From the Rangitikei County Council, with formal notification of intention to build Rangitikei bridge. From Manawatu Road Board, with cheque for £21 16s 2d, half cost of maintenance LongburnRongotea road. From the Treasury, with voucher for £500, being final payment on account of loan of £6000. From tlie Government Chief Surveyor, stating that he had not Hgain received plans of road in block 1, Mt. Robinson — Clerk to write to Mr Ftyger on the matter. From F. J. Natham, Kairanga, asking for particulars of Small Birds Nuisance Club— To be supplied. From the Foxton Borough Council

with copy of letter approving of the application of James E Fulton C.E. to have charge of erection of Wirokino bridge -No action taken. From G. N. Clausen, asking for extension of time to supply 600 sleepers.— Granted. From William Bryan, Awahuri, complaining of water being allowed fa lie in front of thig section. Relfrred to Overseer. From Tho?. Bowe, desiring road to his property to be improved.— Funds not available to do tbe work. From Sandon Small Bird Nuisance Club, asking for annual subsidy of £10— Granted The Tramway report Li* the last month showed the receipts to have been £52 8s 6d and the expenditure _^£62 lis, and additional cost for rai.s made the total expenditure of £73 12. Mr Daniell waited on the Council and stated that the aproach to Scott's Ferry on the Rangitikei side required raising, and a bell was required. The Clerk was directed to write to the Rangitikei County Council about the approach, and also enquire J-price of a bell. The applications of Jas. Knight, F. W. Koberstein, trustees in estate of S. Fagan, T. Whitehouse, C. W. Weightman, Strang Bros., C. Koberstein, H. Harris and H. M. Bensen for change of name on rate roll were agreed to. Before resuming the ordinary business after tbe adjournment for dinner the Chairman said that he found that his own private affairs would require his whole attention in future, and that he would have to resign both from his position as Chairman and as representative for the Biding. He would hand in his resignation at the next meeting. He mentioned the matter so that com* sideration could be given to the appointment of Chairman and rep resentative for Riding. Or. Wilson said he hoped Cr. Taylor would continue in office to the end of the year at any rate. The loss of his services would be much felt both by the Council and the riding. It was resolved — That the tender of J. Wellington at 8a lOd a chain, be accepted for forming the Bulls-Feilding road. That the necessary steps be taken to raise a loan of £250, under the Government Loans to Local Bodies Act of 1866, for metalling a portion of Jones' line, and that for the purpose of providing interest and sinking fund a Bpecial rate of £d in the £ be" made and levied on Jones' line special rating district, including the following properties in the Campbell riding :- Sections 42, 44, 45, and 46 of sub-division section 384, block 12, Te Kawau Survey district, and sections 48,49, 50,51, 52,53 57. 77, 78 and 112, block 7, Te Kiwan Survey district. That tenders to be called for forming Gust's line, about 80 chains ; tenders to be in by noon at nex* meeting. Tbe Clerk was directed to make a statement of expenditure of tbe £6000 loan. The Council then adjourned. — Advocate.
