Commercial.

Messrs Abraham and Williams report : — We have held sales during the week at Levin, Colyton and Palmerston.

At Levin on Friday last we had good entries of both sheep and cattle. The attendance was good and the bidding lively, a pleasant contrast to sales held at other centres. The sheep were generally of good quality and we disposed of all offered mostly under the hammer. Cattle sold freely, young steers being in good demand at an advance on recent rates ; with the exception of an odd cow or two we quitted the lot,

At Colyton on Tuesday we had a very small attendance, thanks to the numerous sale§ this week. Buyers were present, however, and with the exception of two pens we disposed of the whole of the entry. Cattle, mostly consisting of backward cows and heifers, were dull of sale.

At Palmerston yesterday entries of both sheep and cattle were in excess of advertised numbers. Sound hoggets improved in value, probably in consequence of the presence of some West Coast buyers. The wethers- entered were of very poor class and realised full value. A large numbor of threequarter fatted ewes came in, which did not meet with the approval of the trade though the latter were well represented. Vendors must be more careful in drafting their sheep If they wish to realise gcod prices; prime sheep would have sold well yesterday had any come forward. A pen of Lincoln ewes in lamb, belonging to Messrs Skerman and Podevin, excited general commendation, but we were only able to dispose of part of the line at the very reasonadle price placed upon them, the balance being still for sale at the money, nine shillings. In cattle the market livened up considerably, and the few pens entered of bullocks and springing heifers sold freely at an advance in recent rates. We quote :— Levin — Sheep: — Forward Lincoln wethers, ios 4d ; 2-tooth do., gs ; others 6s to 7s 3d ; forward ewes, 6s ; woolly lambs, 5s to 5s 6d ; shorn do., 2s 4d to 3s.
