Clark. The minutes of the prevoas meet, in? were read and confirmed. The following correspondence was d alt with : - From J. Duthie and Qd. in refer. ence to steel rails. From General Manager of New Zealand Railways re same. From C. N. Clansen re supply of sleepers. From Seoretary of the New Zea. land Counties Association re confer, ence of delegates.— Resolved to allow the letter to remain on the table. Messrs Goodbehere and Biobmond re sale of properties. From Trafic Manager re ballast. From F. Powell re poisoned grain. From Treasury Department, in* forming the Council tbat tbe Colonial Treasurer has approved of tbe application for a loan of £260 for metalling portion of Sanson road. From Feilding Borough Counoil re forming South Street. From Treasury Department Wellington, informing the Counoil that the sum of £128 8s lOd had been remitted to the Council as subsidy at Scott's. From Valuer-General forwarding rolls. From the Land and Survey De* partment saying that they have examined the plan submitted to them, and that they have referred it to the surveyor for technical amendment. From Y. C. Ransom, asking the Counoil if they would metal about three chains of road leading to the new creamery. From W. H. Howe offering 10a per ton for the right of cutting grass on the Motoua Boad. — Laft in the hands of Cr Strang to deal with. From the Sluggish River Drainage . Board re building a stop bank at section 71. Oroua River, and aoking for half cost of same amounting to £26 16 ld. £20 were passed for payment. Proposed by Or J. G. Wilson, seconded by Cr T. Masters '* That a reply to the Mayor of Feilding re South Street, Feilding be sont to the effect that the street in question is a riding road, and that rates from the whole sections adjoining it at present amount to L 5 7s ld, and that even with the additional valuation likely to be put upon the seotions adjoining
_________ m the road, the riding rate will not be more than LlO per annum. The Council, under the circumstances, see little chance of there being sufficient funds at its disposal for Borne time for the metalling of South Street, but wili be glad to join with the Borough Counoil either in assisting them to extend the boundary of the Borough so as to include the land adjoining the street, or to take steps to borrow money under the Loans to Local Bodies Act for the purpose of completing the street in question.— Carried.
