SUICIDE OF A SPY.
A man named George Downing, who was arrested at Washington on suspicion of being a Spaniih spy, has committed suicide. THE SPANISH SQUADRON. Accounts from both Amerioan and Spanish sources state the , Spanish Gape Verde squadron has arrived off Martinique. Reports have baen reoeived that the Spanish Gape Verde squadron baa been sighted in the Garibbean Sea steaming .at fall speed in a westerly direotion. It is believed the squadron is bound for Cuba, y , : . Owing to a report that Spanish warships are on the New England coaat, New York harbour is com* pletely closed at night. Captain Sampson, is now searching for Admiral Oerveras' fleet, and Admiral Schley- has left Hampton Roads to assist him.
