SAN JUAN FORTS IN RUINS. Captain Sampson, with nine war ships, bombarded the San Juan forts. Reports from Fort Au Frinoe state
that the lowa (11,400 tons) tons fired the first Bhofc, and the Indiana (10,288 tons) followed. The Mono fort was laid in rains within a few minutes. A slight response was made by the batteries to the American fire.- ** The town of San Joan then Barrendered. The Consols and several thousand residents fled to the interior.
