Our Flax Commissioner.
Oar friend Mr John Holmes is still " pegging away " at Home and the Pott Magizine ani Ins trance Monitor of March 26 tb, has a half page reference to him, from which we take the following:— Ever since we had the pleasure of our first inter view Mr Holmes, we have not failed to observe b?3 movements through out the provinces, and have noticed the seal and earneetness displayed in bis work. His speech at the Lord Mayor's luncheon at ManchesterjqreatSd sojfavourable an impression that his Lordship promised to
call a larger meeting of the citizens to disouss the question of closer trade relations with New Zealand. We are pleased to learn that Mr Holmes' mission ha 3 already borne good fruit. Since his arrival in London several large orders at improved prices for regular shipments of hemp have been sent to the Colony. This must be very gratifying to him and especially to the Colony he so successfully serves.
