BRITISH SHIPPING.
Congrass propose to increase the tonnage dues on foreign shipping to two dollars and forty cents.
Mr Balfour First Lord of the Treasury, speaking in the House of Commons, said he believed the Eill favoured tha countries 1 not exacting the rights dues on American vessels. MrG.T. Ritchie, President of the Board of Trade, replying to a deputation of ship-owners on the matter, ?aid he had communicated with Sir Julian Pauncefote, British Ambassador at Washington, and with several of the Powers interested, The Government, he said, wag keeping a watch in the interest of British shipping.
