DOUBLING THE PATROL.
The patrolling warships on the New England coast have been doubled.
The engineers find that the rules guiding vessels in regard to entering harbours laid with mines are not being observed, and stricter precautions have been ordered.
President McKinley has instructed Captain Sampson, in charge of the blockading squadron, to stop the seizure of Spanish vessels until SO days' grace has expired.
