The funeral of the late Majoi; ___mp took place on Sunday, andi was witnessed by a tremendous consour.e of people from all parts of the :oa9t, including Palmerston. Department) was conveyed to th* Drillehed, where it remained until two o'olock under a guard of Wanganui Rifles and a number of Maoi;i warriors. In the meantime a continual stream of people passed in and out of the hall, viewing ,-Uw coffin and inspecting tbe beautiful dispay of wreaths and other floral tributes which were laid out on a waggon close at hand. At two o'clock the cortege, headed* by the firing party— the Wanganui Riflesmarched to Pufeiki, which occupied nearly an hour. Hon J. Carrol delivered a speech at the graveside, in whioh he narrated the loyal services rendered^ 6y the late Major Kemp. Amongst the military officers present was Captain, Hall, of the Palmerston North Rifle, wbile Captain Preece was one of the pall bearers.— Condensed from Chronicle.
