The last 1 number of the " Review of Reviews " has a character sketch of Abdul Rshman^ftnd gives some examples of his HiSbQes9's taste in this direction : — 'M^ne old man got his beard pulled oujf by the roots in public dnrbar fqtsome offence against tenets of the Amjer'a autocracy ; another, who was f ijaker, and had sold short weight, was sentenced to be roasted in his own oven ; a third, who bad mentioned to his friends that thp Russians were marching on Cabul, wan placed oh the top of a tall pole, upon whiqU bad been faotpned a small stool, where he wa* commanded to shout vociferously. • The Russians are coming fV Should he lack in hi? energies or give way to a doze, there W*i a sentry' below who would re» mind him by a, prod from his fixed tayonefc." ;
