A HUMOROUS INCIDENT.
A ripple of laughter went rowid fchfi camp on Saturday night says the N.Z. Times whon the details of ft humorous incident which occurred during the afternoon became generally known. On the way back from the sand hills 4 certain" officer (ha was not a Wellington man, be it noted) discovered to hig horror thit he was without* li\a sword. N<!y an officer without his sword ia some* thing like the play of "Hamlet" without the Prince of Denmark being included in the cast, and steps were at once taken to 'find the missing weapon. A detachment of cavalry was sent back with instructions to search the sandhills, where it was supposed the sword must have been dropped in the excitement okt^ the fight. Before the detachment reached the bills, however, the gallant officer had got to his quarters and there snugly reposing in its case
was tbe sword which he should bave been wearing all the afternoon. What he said when he discovered that he had been engaging the enemy mmw the most essential portion of his equipment is not recorded ; what the men in camp thought could be heard for a considerable distance.
