Unfortunate Condition of the Maoris.
- The Ureweras at Galatea, Tewiti, Tuafcahuna and Te Mimi are badly off for food, owing to the oomplete failure of the potato and maize crops Many have migrated to Buatoki and Wakataune, and at one of the schools the teacher (Mr Wylie) ha9 been giving the children a meal of boiled rice daily.
The Premier has given instructions some rice, potatoes and flour to be Bent them forthwith, and he will start some road works, so that the able.bodied men may earn sufficient to keep their people during -(fce winter. •
It seems that the frost has destroyed everything, and tha natives are living on roots and birds.
