Oca of the best repartees of the late author of " Alice in Wonder* land " was that elicited by an Oxford student driving a tandem. This matt had the social honour of driving the late Khedive of Egypt through the ancient city of Oxford, and had the misfortune to have " spilled " his Highness. Oj the following day the youth, driving the same tandem, overtook Mr Dodgson, wLo looked somewhat tired. " May I give you a life?" he asked jauntily. To whom the h m risk, "Wilt thou slay m", as hon didst the Egyptian yesterday ?

eomp'ete down to the veijr last possible stores that would ,be required." Hear, hear. This however is very much like the statement of (he French Commander in Chief, before Sedan, «fau declared everything wag p.'ifeefc^fco, the bat tons on the gaiters. We hope Lord Wolaeley'a assertion is more reliable*
