FOXTON v. SANDON-RANGITI-KEI. This match came off at Foxton yesterday, and resulted after a hard fight in a victory for the local Club by a majority of 55 points. The visitors came in by the tram from Sanson ap riving at xo o'clock, and were met at

the station by the iocal players. After some practice had been indulged in play was commenced a little before n, the first game played being a double for ladies. The visitors won this, the local players not playing at all up to their average form. Through some players not being present arrangements that had been made as to the playing were somewhat thrown out of order, and consequently changes had to be made at the last minute which should have been avoided, besides preventing all the games being got off. Although the weather seemed threatening somewhat all day no rain fell, but as the afternoon wore on it became quite fine but perhaps a little chilly. It will be notice^ fr° m the scores appended that some close games were played, and really several fine games were witnessed during the day's play. The lady players, of the local club proved their superiority by gaining the advantage in points, thus averting a defeat. Of the gentlemen's games the visitors held an advantage of 18 points, and some of these games were wellcontested. . Out of a total of a little over iooo points scored the majority is not a targe one, and the visitors played well. Fjfteen games were played, Foxton winning nine, and* the visitors six. The match was much enjoyed,; and it was hoped that a return match would be played next season. - -- The Club entertained the visitors at at Mr StanselPs hotel, where a capital repast was provided, and in the afternoon tea was dispensed to all, which is always both necessary and refreshing.
