The SUndard't New York correspondent says that dappite the official assurances of a pacific nature, the Talue of stocks has fallen, in some oases, to the extent of tome 7 per oent. , The Tiny* states that the inquiry into the explosion on the cruiser Maine has eonoluded. The report will be presented to v United States Government in the course of a fortnight. The American Government is accelerating, the construction of 150 bis guns at a Washington faotory, with a view to arming 80 auxiliary cruisers. Inspection is also being made of 40 steamers suitable for conversion into cruisers. Among these are the new Amprican line mail steamers St. Paul and St. Louis. The United States Government baa purchased two warships from the Brazilian Government. The Emperor is endeavouring to induce the Powers to represent to the United States the danger to Europe of further interference in the Cuban trouble.
