The Administration of Justice.

At Napier a deputation from the jury which acquitted James Wilson on a charge of robbery from the person waited on the Chief Justice to-day, and complained that a constable, acting on instructions from his sergeant, had endeavoured to find out who voted for conviction and who for acquittal. Inspector Emerson denied all knowledge of the matter. Constable Ramsay ex plained that he was instructed to find out because it was believed that the foreman was a relation of Mr Cresswell, the solicitor who appeared for the defence. Hia Honor said that such an enquiry wa3 most improper, and though Napier might be entirely free from the suspicion, unfortunately there were plaoes where there was a good deal of reason to believe that the same Eort of thing went on between a jury and a prisoner or hi 3 fritnds and advisers, legal or otherwise.
