0 Some interesting fossil remains have recently been found in the course of the excavations in connection with the sewerage works at Carehalton, in Surrey. The fossils were found in a pleistocene deposit at a depth of about 14ft., and have been identified by Mr Newton, of the Jermyn-st Museum— where they will be preserved— as a large skull (81in long) and limb bones of a rhinoceros, an elephant's tusk, and bones of 2 or perhaps 3 horses.
California has a young girl engine, driver. She is Miss Lola M. Coulter. She is a fair hai.ed girl of 14. She has always taken an interest in machinery. She made the acquaintance of Engineer Brown, and after 3 or 4 lessons she could manage the throttle and the brakes. Engineer Brown says she learned bow to handle the engine much quicker than any fireman.
