FOXTON v. OTAKI. The long-deferred return match b< tween the Otaki and Foxton Law Tennis Clubs came off last Saturda at Otaki. It turned out to be just th sort of day one could wish for, an the journey to Otaki was perhaps er joyed as much as the games. and Levin, the mail coach reaching there some time after. The train to ' Otaki is here taken, and this distance f k soon accomplished. On arrival at ' Otaki the players were driven to Mr • Me Death's Jubilee Hotel, and later oil j in the day where the Otaki Club enter--5 tained the visitors to a first-class dinl ner, all the Otaki players accompanyr ing them; The Foxton team was weak » in men, but fairly strong in ladies, and • they fought hard in all their game3 i against their opponents, and came out I with flying colours. In Miss Purcell 1 the local Club undoubtedly possesses t a very strong player, and her game with Miss Bertha Whitehorn was expected to be very close. Miss Purcell ' however proved her superiority by T easily defeating her opponent. Miss O'Brien also played a fast game, defeated Miss McWilliam by 5 points. In the game between Mrs Stewart and Miss Simcox some capital play was witnessed, the former just winning by a bare point. In the Ladies' Doubles the visitors also won two out of three, ) and one Combined Double. The visitors speak in high terms of the hospitable manner in which they 1 were received, and although beaten, - thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Afternoon I tea was dispensed by the Otaki ladies 1 which was in plentiful supply. Need--3 less to say this was also much appre--5 The Otaki Club possess two courts, I grass and asphalt. The latter has I been newly constructed, and is not al- , together a success.
