♦_ FOXTON v. RONGOTEA. VICTORY FOR FOXTON BY c RUNS. Last Saturday the match between the above Clubs took place at Herring ton, and proved to be both interesting and enjoyable. The weather was all that could be desired, a nice breeze blowing across the field, and consequently a large number of persons found their way to the cricketing ground. The Rongotea players arrived by special tram a little after 10 o'clock accompanied by other friends, inclu ding a number of ladies. The visiting players were entertained at dinner b) the local Clnb at Host, Wanklyn's Ma nawatu Hotel. In the afternoon Mrs J. H. Robinson and the Misses Young provided afternoon tea which was mud appreciated. It will be seen from th« scores that the Rongotea men with twe Exceptions in the first innings were al out for the small total of 3 runs, si? making the proverbial "duck," anc three other players 1 each. The part nership of W. Broughton and H. Bud however, with 37, lifted the total con siderably. The Foxton men in then innings made a very creditable begin ning, W. Nye being the most success jful with a score of 20, in which he ex hibited some good cricket. In the second innings Nye also made 15, the pther players getting into double figures being Martin and Warner, with 13 and 12 respectively. The second innings of the Rongotea players opened disastrously, both Penny and Bowatei havfhg to retire without adding to the total. The hopes of the Rongoteas ran high as Broughton and Buck again were associated together. These players punished the Foxton bowling, and both players retired caught, the former making 21, and the latter 28. Opie, with 10, was the only other one to get into double figures.
