The Fish Ranger.

Wb have had occasion to write very s rongly on the usurpation ofepowers by Mr Moorhouse, the Ranger of the Acclimitiaation Society, in ordering >ur fishermen to cease fishing. He has, apparently been hauled over the coals, for he has permitted it to be said, on hi., behalf, that he never ordered the fisherman to stop fishing. This statement one can only charifc ably suppose has been made in error, as we have the distinct assurance of three of the fishermen fchafc he elenrly told them they were nofc to fi^b beyond a quarter of a mile of the mouth of the river. Whatever he may have said, thi.-? is exactly whafc f hey understood from his words, a. they left off fishing and came up to town and complained to ourselves and others, and they went to ccc the constable to whom they told the same story and wished to see the Gazette notice about salmon trout. The question as.urms rather a serious phase for the Society, as from the action of their acknowledged officer a certain number of men have been rendered idle for come timet and we .hould think they would be seeking to gather compensation for such loss. Though, a week has elapsed "iruje the fishermen appealed to the Colonial Secretary, no *eply has been received, yet we have a Government in office who are supposed to bold nothing so dear to them than the redressing of the wrongs of the j poor workingman. In this instance it takes some time to long.
