St. John-Hayman Company.
*— » RACE NIGHT. On Saturday the above Company will produce at the Public Hall one of their grand and sensational plays. At Show time in Palmerston this Company appeared at the Theatre Royal and the papers mentioned that the house was crowded with the audiences, and that the pieces were capitally staged and the acting was capame and the interest of the audience was sustained throughout the pieces. Writing of the piece "A ring *of iron " " Standard " says :— The audience followed -closely '• the many exciting passages with which the play abounds, the applause' throughout being unstinted and well deserved. ,Mr Harrie Marshall had a trying part to perform, but she faithfully kept to the idea of the author and thus scored a signal success. Mr Bert Bailey, in the character of " Gentleman Jack " was permitted full scope for bringing •to the surface a taste of the histronic ability which he undoubtedly possesses, and he satisfied the audience that it was of a high order. Mr Irve Hayman was responsible for the production of much fun, his comicalities creating unbounded laughter as " Timothy Clinker." He also unmistakably showed that he could sing a good comic song, for which .he was encoreti. Miss Dora Mostyn also created no end of merriment, the bye-, play between her and Sam Thorpe caused shrieks of laughter. Miss Marie D'Alton, in the part of the wronged woman, was very effective. The parts entrusted to Miss Blanche 1 ' Wilmott and Messrs Bruce and O'Donaghue and others were in able hands. The box plan is at Fraser's. ]
