Manawatu County Council.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Council wa3 held on Wednesday, when there were present — Grs Taylor (chairman), T. Masters, J. G. Wilson, A. Strang, P. Clark and H. Ham mond. The inward correspondence was dealt with as follows :— From J. P. Butherford, Feilding. J. Collingwood, Awahuri, Walsh and Howan, Foxton, A. S. Easton, Foxton, Edward Mines, Banaon, applying for renewal of slaughtering licenses.— All granted. From the Controller and AuditorGeneral, giving bis opinion, in reply to questions put by the Council, that a bonus, as sucb, cannot be legally pud to the Chairman ; also, that interest on loan? secured by a special rate on the rateable property of a part less tban the whole of the oounty cannot be paid out of separate riding rate?, and that the general rates tha Council is authorised to make and levy must be uniform throughout the oounty. — The Clerk was instructed to write to other looal bodies as to their practice in regard to payment of interest on loans out of general rate. From Whisker 8r05.,, notifying that they would hold the Council responsible for any damage which might be caused to their crops by sparks from the engine running on the tram line From Herbert Wilton, Oroua bridge, offering £1 for the right to out grass seed on the Main Drain road ; G. JvflVey, Oroua Bridge, offering £1 2s 6d, and H. Williams offering £2. The tender of H. Williams was accepted. From the Treasury, stating &at the voucher of £1580 on account -of loan of £6,000 hag passed the audit. From J. Elakely, Bongotea, for permission to ereot a verandah. — Granted. Permission, on the motion oi Cr Masters, was also given to Mr Copestake to ereot a verandah. ; From Thosi. Bowe, Moutoa, calling ! attention to the state of the sand cutting opposite the Maori Church. — Referred to Or. Strang and the Overseer. It was resolved that a committee consisting of the Chairman, Cra Hammond, Masters, and Wilson be appointed to take such steps as they deem necessary to push forward tha building of the bridge over the Ban gitikei river ; such committee to have power to meet any similar esmmittee of other local bodies interested in the matter and arrange to deputationiae the.Rangitikei Couucil at their next meeting on the subject. The sender of E. A. Howe at £7 183 for lowering the Shannoo-Ferry was accepted. It was resolved that tenders be called for constructing Eikin's road and construct sand roads in Moutoa Swamp according to special loan numben, 16 and 21.
That the Government ha-ving set aside a sum of money to assist in replacing bridges or ferries damaged or washed away by the last Easter flood, this Council apply for a sob- ;' .sidy of £ for £ for replacing Scott's Perry. —Advocate.
