Another Successful Butter Factory.
A Ngaire correspondent of the Hawera Star writes : —The suppliers to the Ngaire Co-operative Factory were this week paid a third and final surplus of one panny per lb of butter fat on the milk supplied during the 1896 97 season, the returns of the cheeße consigned to Messrs Lovell and Christmas, of London, baying been received, and bearing out the estimate made of valae of unsold, cheese at date of balancing last September. This balance-sheet is worth perusing by those interested in the industry, to which Taranaki owes the prosperity of recent years. It shows that the suppliers have been paid 9£d per lb of butter fat for the whole season — probably the best result in the colony for the year. The total cost of land, buildings and plant has been £1798 15s 4d, from wbich £805 has been deducted for depreciation. The capital paid up by the shareholders, who are also suppliers, is £1867 7s Gd, being mainly the accumulation of deduc tions made monthly from milk cheques at the rate of l£d per 60 gallons of milk. The debt remaining on the cost of the factory is now only £126. This Company bas consistently done business with one firm in London, Messrs Lovell and Christmas, and the result has been eminently satisfactory.
