Extract of Scent of Flowers.
■ ' ' m ■'■»■'■ Captain Smee has discovered a method . of gathering the scent of flowers as the plants are graving He takes a glasa funnel, and heats the thin end over ft spirit lamp. He then draws oat the stem to a fine {:oint. This accomplished, the DJuivl is filled with ice, and placed on ft retort stand, the pointed end , being placed in a small bottle, without touching it. After this the stand and the funnel are placed in a greenhouse, among the flowers whose o Jours it is desired to collect, gradually the vapour rises from the flowers,, and in meeting the colder surface of the funnel condenses into .drops on the outside of the glass. Frwn the points of condensation it trickles down until it dropa down into ft huge bottle. In a surprising short time a large amount of perJunie is collected, and it is olaimed that 80 per cent, oi the' bottle is perfume the rest is water.
