The Canterbury Opal Fields.

The- Chief Inspector of Mioei and a party from Ashburfcon have returned from a visit to the Mount Peel opal fields, and they give a highly satisfactory report of the field. Some beautiful samples of pipe opal were unearthed. Small fiery opalf were found on the outcrop of sandstone rocks and many other in* dications were peen, proving that the country is opal bearing. The com' mercial value of the opals has yet, of course, to be ascertained.
