The Conference between the employer? and engineers has pro viaionally settled the questions of management of machines, piecework and overtime. The masters secure the right to introduce into the workshops any form of labour existing at the beginning of the dispute. They disclaim any intention to interfere with the proper functions of the unions. At the London School Board election?, which have just been completed, 29 Progressives were elected. This is the first clear majority they have secured since 1882. Mr J. R. Diggle, a Moderate, who took a prominent part in the religious education discussion in 1895, lost his seat as the representative of Marylebone. Much indifference was manifested by the electors at the present election, there being half a million fewer voters than at the previous election, the Bible-reading in Bohools question not being disturbed. Butter is steady, price being unchanged. Rabbits are very fiat.
