The Frozen Meat Trade.
The Agent-General, summarising the result of his enquiries into the frozen meat trade, classifies the main fleslreta.as follows :-l. That the quality should be rigorously preserved : 2. that it should be advertised widely and perseveringly tmongst the English middle class ; 8 that efforts be made by wbioh wholeBile dealers should supply New Zealand meat to retail butchers, who will agree to bay no other foreign meat ; 4. that all foreign meat should be marked not only as foreign, bat with the country of .its origin. Mr Beeves also makes refer- i ence to storage aocomodation. It is not what it should be. There is apoßi* tive difficulty in getting room for arriving oargoes. The quality of stores is uneven, also slow discharging and handling of oarcases in docks are complained of, all of which point to the advantages of having a large central sorting shed. The Docks Committee is willing to find £40, 000 to put this up. The site could hardly be bettered, but a guarantee of £7,000 is required. There is reason to believe that shipping companies would find a third of this if the Government and producers guaranteed the rest. By this adop tion many days delay and much damage would be caved sending Home inferior brands of butter and ,'obeese. He strongly condemned Mr Cameron, the Government expert He recommends establishing shops in the north of England and the Midlands for tha sale of New Zea* land meat only. Mr Beeves' comment on this was, who is to find oapital and organising ability.— Press Association.
