Rongotea Notes.

(fbom ovb own ooeeespondent.) At the beginning of the month the Bey. S. Barnett preached at the anniversary services in the Primitive Methodist Church. In the morning to the parents, in the afternoon to the children, as well as at a special service at night to the young folk. Mr Barnett is looked upon ai a powerful preacher and has left behind him a good impression. On the 9th the annual picnic wai held in Mr Staff's paddock at which everyone thoroughly enjoyed them* selves, and at night a public meeting was held in the church. During ' the evening many items were rendered by the children and were well received. This shows that we have both vocal and instrumental talent amongst us. Prizes for the Sunday School soholars were presented at the close of the meeting. . On the 10th a very successful sooial was held in the Town Hall by the Wesleyana to find funds for the purohase of a hone and buggy for ibe Minister. The tables reflected great credit on the ladies. Mr and Mrs Mitchell who have been on a holiday trip to Auckland returned home last Tuesday. Mr Mitchell is the County road overseer. The billiard-room will soon be finished, and Messrs Grace k Go., of Palmerston, are making great strides towards finishing the new creamery. The talked of brewery is likely to end in talk. Mr Canning, who has been a resident here for so many years, left for Auckland on Saturday, where he intends going into business. We wish him every success. Another saddler started last week, and judging from a'ppearancas ' he seems to be full up with work. Mr W. Darragh, our local storekeeper has just completed a fine new show room, which is a great improvement to his. premises. Our local baker is likely Boon to have some opposition. Our local butcher has bought out the Sandon butchery and intends running the two. We wish him every Bucoess. The wedding bells will soon be ringing for more than one young couple in our midst. Mr Tobeok, the butter maker at the factory, has just completed the purchase of Mr W. Arnold's property. We were pleased to hear of Mr Stansell's re-election as Mayor of Fox ton.
