Rongotea Notes.

(from otjr own cobbespondent.)

Probasco's circus paid a visit to the town last Monday night and took, it id stated £64 in cash t It does not look as though money was short in the dairying districts.

The pale by Mr J. R. Montagus at Mr Canning's store occupied two days. Though the weather was bad every article offered sold readily and at good prices. The amount realised was over £400.

Mr W. H. Tompkina has just had a fine new dwelling erected, into which he will shortly move.

In Factory street Mr J. Penny is having extensive additions to his shop and dwelling.

The Bey. Mr Russell preached his farewell sermon last Sunday morning. Though the rain poured in torrents the -church was packed to hear him for the last time. Mr Russell is much loved and carries with him the best wishes of the whole district.

Mr Holland's (Senr.) funeral took place last Thursday and was the largest attended that there has been in Bongotea.

Mr 0. Lasenby is having a large billiard-room built. There is also some talk of a brewery being built here. I will be able to give more particulars later on.

Mr Baylais our local bootmaker has just purchased a section in the =qnare where he intends shortly to erect a fine bootshop. The price paid for the quarter acre was £70. We are going up I can tell you. We would like to have "Cheap-side" up here, and another grocer.

Two new dairy farmers scoured land here last week and intend, I believe, milking from 85 to 40 cows each. The Awahuri factory is now in full swing.

The batchelor's ball last Tuesday was a big success.
