Political Notes.
Mr William Hutchison is contesting the Dunedin City seat and at his meeting on Friday a motion was carried that Mr Hutchiaon had been consistent to all his election pledges, and of confidence in him as a representative for the city. If this is not an exaggeration Mr Hutchison must be a wonderful man. The Guardian published on Saturday a " Ward Special " giving copious extracts from the late investigations. It concludes with. •• Whatever may be the Committee's decision, let the House for once in a way be true to the country and put its foot down on the evident attempt which is being made to save Mr Ward at the expense of members' conscience and honor." Major Steward was unkind enough to tell the House that Mr Scobie Maokenzie owed his position in Parliament to a happy accident or freak of nature that made him a witty Scotchman. The Premier assured the House the other night that the financial portion of the Old Age pensions wag all right, and that it would not be his fault if the Bill did not go through.
