On Sunday last Colonel Jeffreys' brigade attacked a strongly fortified place in the Mohmand Valley, des troyed the forts, and carried the heights .
On the column retiring to camp great numbers of tribesmen surrounded the position, and, under perfect cover, poured a heavy firr upon the brigade.
The casualties on the part of the British, however, were not serious.
The Mohmanda jeeringly exprss disappointment that Colonel Jeffreys' forces did not fight on Monday, and they adversely criticise the Guides' Corpg and artillery force.
Troops to the number of 65,000, the flower of the British and native annie?, are now collected on the north-western frontier.
The first division of Lieutenant Colonel Sir William LockhartV column Will be tinder the command of Lieutenant-Colonel W. J. Symonp aud the second division under Colonel Lugg.
General Lockhart and Major General Lord Methuen have arrived at Khat on their way to Tirah, th* stronghold of the Afridis.
Three columns of the expeditionary force which is to operate against the stronghold of the tribesmen at Tirab will leave Peshawar on Friday, Saturday and Sunday next, going across the Kohat Pass.
