Baroness Burdett Coutts.

One of the most striking incidents (says a London writer) on the route of the Jubilee procession on the Tuesday night and again on the Wednesday was the, demonstration of popular feeling for Baroness BurdettnCoutts opposite her house nt the corner of Stratton street. On Tuesday the vast crowds which passed the house early in the evening formed a block whioh could not be moved until Baroness Burdetfc-Coutts appeared on the balcony and bowed her acknowledgements, and then the roar of applause that came from the sea of upturned faces was heard along the whole length of Piccadilly. The scene was constantly repeated up to a late hour, but on Wednesday night it wa3 made continuous for nearly five hours. Baroness Bur-dett-Coutts remained on her balcony till 2 a.m., when the crowd broke across the street and stopped "* y t?»-traffic, calling for a speech. Mr Burdett-Coutts said a few warm .. words of acknowledgement on the Baroneßs's behalf, and called for three cheers for- the Queen, which were fortunately accepted by his hearers as indicating the finale of a really memorable celebration in honour of " a long life of golden deed 3.
