Municipal Enterprise.

A London paper says :— " Thanks to municipal management, the people of Glasgow are saying £180,000 a year in tramway car fares. That fact is disclosed by the report of the third year's working, just issued. In round numbers, ninety-nine millions travelled on the cars during the year, and they paid £870,882 in fares. Had the system been under the same private management as it was three years ago they would have paid about one half more. The gross profits on the year's working were £84,596 8a Id, practically the same as in the previous year, and that, too, in spite of the increased competition of underground city and suburban railways. The Corporation had to pay last year no less than £7488 in rates to itself, and in addition £9000 was handed over to the Common Good in lieu of rent."
