Why not Here ?
The other day Mr Bobert Bruce very kindly gave a scholarly lecture on Robert Burn 3to an appreciative Pal. mereton audience. The last election has made us all aware what a capital speaker Mr Bruce is, so good is he, that he undoubtedly captured many votes which, had the owners not heard him, would have been cast in favour of one of his opponents. It says a great deal for the persuasive powers and ability of a candidate when he succeeds in doing such things, therefore how much more pleasant it would be to hear him on common ground where our feelings would all the time be with him. It would appear possible for either the School Committee or the Borough Oouncil to communicate with him, and inquire whether he would oblige us by the repetition of fehe lecture here. We would prefer the School Committee moving, as then Mr Bruce might not object to a small charge being made, which we feel sure would be ungrudgingly tendered, to hear such a lecture by such a lecturer, and the school funds, whioh can always bear adding to, would receive much benefit. We hope some prompt action will be taken.
