The Fire on the Aotea.
» The fire on the Aotea is now completely out. There is 4ft of wa'er in the hold. The captain and crew are much "xhaustod, and suffering from the ■ffr-ets of the heat and smoke. The damage to the vessel is estimated at £1000. The vessel's walls are burned in one place to within fin of the total thickness. The cargo is uninjured. The damage to the schooner Aotea proves not to be quite so great as was estimated, though the cargo in much injured by water, and a hole was burned through the vessel's side go that daylight could be seen before i parch was put on. The kerosene used for the oil engine did not explode, as was supposed, but some cotton waste became ignited either by spontaneous combustion or the gnawing of rats at matches.
