The s.s. Tasmania Bunk.

The Huddart. Parker Oo.'s s.s. Tasmania, 2252 tons, Captain McGee, struck a rock at Table Cape, Mahia Peninsula, on Thursday night and sunk in a very short time. The Tasmania was on the round trip from Sydney to Wellington via Auckland and the East Coast, and left Auckland en Wednesday. The steamer hung about Gisborne for | some hoars awaiting a chance to communicate with the shore, as there was a heavy sea running into Poverty Bay. It was decided to proceed to Napier and two hours afterwards she struck. The passengers had time to dress hurriedly and assemble on deck. Everyone was supplied with lifebuoys. They were placed in fix boats and all it is hoped have reached shore safely. The steamer sank about 2.15 a.m., making a plunge bow first. The mails are probably all lost.
