The British camp at Malakand, in the State of Ohitral, has been attacked by Chitralese. Lieatenant Edgar N. Manley, of the Koyal Engineers, was killed, and four other officers were wounded. The Malakand camp contained 8000 men. They were warned that a mad Mallah or priest was leading the attack npon the camp. Colonel W. H. Meiklejohn, of the Bengal infantry, who was commanding the camp, discovered that tne entire tribesmen in the valley of the Swat river were in armed rebellion. He obtained reinforcements of the Bengal Lancers and opened com* munioation with Ohandara. The camp is now safely held. Lieutenant-General Sir William Lookhart, commanding the forces in the Punjab, has ordered four infantry regiments and a mountain battery to reinforce Colonel Meiklejohn. i The tribesmen are ready to renew I the attaok. Bal Gangadhar Tilak, ft member of the Governor's Council of Bombay and the editor of a native paper, has been arrested, together with several Brahmins, for inciting the natives to disaffection.
