Political.
The Wellington correspondent of the Lyttelton Times writes : -" Respecting the probable date of the opening of the next session of Parlia* ment, I am given to understand that as the Premier will not arrive ia the colony till the middle of September, and not at the end of August, as at first anticipated, it will be the end of September, or the first week in October, before members are called together for the despatch of business. The Acting-Premier, it is understood, ban recently received cables from the Premier dealing withfinancial matters, but their contents, it appears, are not to be made public. It is • surmised that they deal with the flotation of the remaining portion of the loan authorised under the Aid to Public Works and Land Settlement Act ol 1894." Mr Sed don gave a distinct pledge to his supporters that Parliament would be summoned for the " despatch of businese " on 24th September.
