Manaw atu County Council.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Council was held on Wednesday, when there were present — Crs V. C. Ransom (chairman), H. Hammond, T. Masters, J. B. McLennan, A. Strang and J. Taylor. The inward correspondence was dealt with as follows : — From T. Young, requesting progress payment on contract No. 8. — £50 passed for payment. From E. Pigott, Moutoa, for addition to be made to bedroom of ferry cottage as he had got married. —No responsibility for inconvenience caused by marriage.

From T. Verry, ranger, reporting that he had impounded 56 head of cattle.

From Rowe and Sons, applying for metal to be placed on Rowe's line. -Referred to overseer.

From Postmaster, Moutoa, requesting that a fuw yards of metal be spread in front of the office. — Or Strang to have work done. From George Nye, Foxton, re construction of punt for Scott's ferry, and stating that his estimate of the cost was £103 103. When finished and in position it would carry twelve tons.

From the Foxton Borough Council, with statement of the expenses in connection with the licensing election, amounting to £116 lls 2d, the Manawatu Council's share being £8 8s lid.— The Council was of opinion that the expenses were excessive and decided to recommend the Government to appoint Local Bodies to conduct licensing elections.

From H. Austin, with amended claim of £2 17b 3d for damage done to his dray through defeotive culvert. — Amount to be paid*

From the Otamafcea County Coun. oil, with copy of petition to be presented to Parliament in favour of administration of charitable aid to be paid out of consolidated fund. — Proposal not approved of. From the district Engineer, naming repairs required to tramway line. — Repairs to be made. From the Kangitikei County Council, handing over duty of making arrangements lor Scott's ferry to the Maoawatu Council. — Agreement as made with Mr Daniell last meeting read and approved.

From the Chairman of the Rangitikei County Council, detailing steps taken in regard to the re erection of the Bangitikei bridge and stating that a man would be placed to guide persons to the ford. From Col. Gorton, reporting tho result of the interview held by the deputation with the Acting Premier, and suggesting that a temporary bridge should be erected. — The Council considered that the Bangitikei Council was doing all that could be done under the circumstances.

The report of the working of the tramway for the past 12 months showed that there had been a loss of £26.

From Thomas Bowe, Foxton, re questiug that a road be formed to the Wesley au Block, from the end of the present formation, -The Chairman,

the Overseer and Or Strang to report on the application. From the Manchester Boad Board, inviting the Council to send delegates to a meeting to consider new byelaws. — A copy of the proposed byelaws were read in Commitee.

From James Bull, for permission to erect a fence across the road leading to the site of the Rangitikei bridge, and having a gate on the road now used by the public to the ferry. —Granted

It was resolved that the following alterations be made on the rate roll :

From Charles Hopping to F. W. Koberstein, for section 251, Waitohi Eidins: ; From J. W- Tompkins to 0. Gray, for section 45, Campbell Biding"; From S. Fagan to J. A. Bailey for section 20, Sandon Riding. That the tender of E, Morris of £46 for the work on Pyke's road be accepted. — Advocate:
