By special request of the subscribers of the Royal Italian Opera, Madame Melba will take the part of Lucia in the opera " Lucia' di Lammermoor" at a Royal command night.
The price of the stalls for the occasion has been fixed at 20 guineas.
The first portion of the mutton and beef presented by Australian pastora* lists towards the dinners for the Lon* don poor has arrived. Ireland and Scotland (through the Lord Mayor of Dublin and the Lord Provost of Edinburgh respectively) have each received 4000 carcases ; London, Manchester and Liverpool each receive 1500 ; Birmingham, Sheffield, Leeds and Newcastle, 1000 ; Cardiff, Bristo), Nottingham, Bradford, Hull and Salford, 500 ; Derby and Norwich, 250. The redistribution of the meat has in every case been left to the absolute discretion of the respective Mayors. The Duke of Devonshire, Lord President of the counoil, delivered an address after the Empire Trade League's luncheon to the Premiers. He defined the aims of the League as being colonial expansion and consolidation, which he held to be ab~ Ssolutely essential to Britain's prosperity.
